The Inspiration Behind Cole Swindell’s “She Had Me At Heads Carolina”

06/21/2022

"She Had Me At Heads Carolina" is track #4 on Cole Swindell's fourth studio album, Stereotype. The song was an interpretation of Jo Dee Messina's hit song "Heads Carolina, Tails California," which was released back in 1996 on her self-named debut album.

Right away, the song became a fan favorite as it reimagined a classic 90s country song that many know and love. Not to mention, it is without a doubt a catchy and upbeat tune. Swindell even decided to send this song to country radio, officially making it his third radio single off the album. "She Had Me At Heads Carolina" impacted U.S. country radio on June 21st and received 60 adds on impact day, making it this week's second most added song. So far, the song has 83 adds and is truly bound to be a massive hit.

"She Had Me At Heads Carolina" was written by Cole Swindell, Thomas Rhett, Ashley Gorley, and Jesse Frasure. Also receiving songwriting credit are writers Tim Nichols and Mark D. Sanders, who wrote "Heads Carolina, Tails California." If you take a listen to the song you can hear numerous sections from Jo Dee's song.

From his album Stereotype, Swindell already has two number ones, which are “Single Saturday Night” and “Never Say Never" with Lainey Wilson.
